Dongdaemun-gu's Swift Response to the Novel Coronavirus
District Mayor Yu Deok-yeol and District Officials Make Thorough Preparations by Visiting Clinics and Pharmacies During Lunar New Year Holiday... Emergency Response Meeting for Novel Coronavirus Held on 28th
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Yoo Deok-yeol) held an 'Emergency Countermeasure Meeting for the Novel Coronavirus' at 5 p.m. on the 28th in the Planning Situation Room on the 5th floor of the district office.
This was to suppress the spread of the novel coronavirus within the region and to enable a prompt response in case of an emergency.
The meeting was attended by Yoo Deok-yeol, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, Choi Hong-yeon, Deputy Mayor, heads of related departments, and the heads of 14 neighborhoods.
Under the chairmanship of Mayor Yoo Deok-yeol, after reviewing citizen events being prepared by each department and neighborhood community centers, it was decided to immediately cancel the 'Neighborhood Lunar New Year’s First Full Moon Folk Play Event' originally scheduled for early February.
Additionally, the district recommended refraining from holding private events and plans to urge attendees to comply with preventive measures if holding events is unavoidable.
Furthermore, from that day until the situation ends, the district will operate the 'Disaster Safety Countermeasures Headquarters,' composed of 13 task forces including the Disaster Situation Management Team, to actively respond to any emergencies.
Also, through the district website, blog, Twitter, Facebook, and social networking services (SNS), as well as 37 IPTV devices within the district and neighborhood offices, information on preventive measures against the novel coronavirus and how to respond if symptoms occur is being provided. Preventive tools such as masks and hand sanitizers are being supplied in facilities frequently used by many people, such as the district office and neighborhood community centers, and installation of thermal imaging cameras is also being pursued.
Prior to this, Mayor Yoo Deok-yeol and district executives visited clinics and pharmacies during the Lunar New Year holiday period to check the response status to the novel coronavirus.
A district official urged, “If you have visited China or have had contact with someone who visited China and develop symptoms such as fever or cough, please refrain from outside activities and report to the Dongdaemun-gu Public Health Center (☎2127-5422) or the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (☎1339).”

Mayor Yoo Deok-yeol stated, “We will establish a thorough response system to minimize damage caused by the novel coronavirus,” and added, “We hope residents will faithfully follow preventive measures and how to respond if symptoms occur.”
