Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education Accelerates Efforts to Nurture Future Talent in the AI Era
Decision to Establish Career Experience Center... Tentative Plan to Utilize Idle Land of Natural Science High School
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education (Superintendent Jang Hwikuk) is establishing a ‘Career Experience Center’ to nurture future talents in the AI (Artificial Intelligence) era, representing the 4th Industrial Revolution.
On the 27th, the Gwangju Office of Education announced that the establishment of the Career Experience Center will be promoted in connection with the relocation of the Education Research Information Center. Through this, they plan to efficiently organize the operating structure and optimize the spatial configuration reflecting the characteristics of the center.
The planned site for establishment has been tentatively decided as the vacant land within Gwangju Natural Science High School (area approximately 21,640㎡).
This has the advantage of reducing project costs by lowering land acquisition expenses and solving large bus parking issues by linking with the Education Training Institute.
The planned Career Experience Center will build facilities and operate programs that enable career experiences utilizing big data and AI based on 4th Industrial Revolution technologies.
A detailed implementation plan will be established this year, construction will begin next year, and the center is scheduled to open in 2023.
Meanwhile, the vacant land within Natural Science High School where the Career Experience Center will be located is currently the site where Gwangju City is constructing the ‘Bitgoeul National Safety Experience Center.’
Once the Career Experience Center and the Education Research Information Center are established here, accessibility will improve and utilization is expected to increase.
Originally, this site was planned in 2016 to attract the ‘Honam Region Job World’ together with Gwangju City, but the plan was canceled.
Later, the establishment of the Career Experience Center was pursued on the site for the consolidation and restructuring of Sangmu and Chipyeong Middle Schools, but due to opposition from parents and the failure of school restructuring, the current planned site was selected considering the surrounding conditions.
If the establishment of the Career Experience Center and the relocation of the Education Research Information Center proceed as planned by the Office of Education, a budget of approximately 40 to 50 billion KRW will be required.
