Seongnam Cultural Foundation Russian Pianist Leonskaya Recital
April 11 at Seongnam Art Center... Beethoven Piano Sonatas No. 30, 31, and 32 Performance
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Byung-hee] Seongnam Cultural Foundation will hold a recital by Russian pianist Elizaveta Leonskaya on April 11 at the Seongnam Arts Center Concert Hall.
In this performance, Leonskaya is scheduled to play Beethoven's late piano sonatas Nos. 30, 31, and 32. Beethoven's late sonata trilogy was completed during a period when he suffered from hearing loss, deteriorating health, and a custody dispute over his nephew. These works reflect a more mature and philosophical attitude toward life than before. Musically and technically, they are considered some of the most challenging repertoire for performers.
Leonskaya received acclaim for her mature and dignified Schubert performance during her first visit to Korea in 2018. This time, she is expected to present her unique Beethoven melodies imbued with the weight of years as an artist.
Leonskaya was born in 1945 in Tbilisi, Georgia, then part of the former Soviet Union. She began music with the help of her Jewish mother, who majored in piano and vocal music, and won the Enescu International Piano Competition at the age of 18. While studying at the Moscow Conservatory, she placed in the Long-Thibaud Competition and the Queen Elisabeth Competition.
As the spiritual successor to Sviatoslav Richter (1915?1997), the representative pianist of the Soviet Union during the Cold War era, Richter recognized Leonskaya's exceptional talent and fully supported her. Leonskaya debuted in 1974 in Vienna, Austria, the birthplace of classical music, and subsequently left the former Soviet Union in 1978 to settle in Vienna. She was recognized for her active performances with world-class orchestras and master conductors, becoming an honorary member of the Vienna Konzerthaus.
She also received the Cross of Honour, the highest distinction in the Austrian cultural sector (2006), and The Priestess of Art award in Tbilisi, Georgia (2015). Her album "PARIS," featuring works by Ravel, Debussy, and Enescu, won the Best Solo Album Award at the International Classical Music Awards in 2014.
