[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Midam] Former Bareunmirae Party lawmaker Ahn Cheol-soo began his full-fledged political comeback on the 20th by starting with a visit to the National Cemetery. This is his first official domestic schedule in about 1 year and 4 months since he left the country in September 2018 after losing the Seoul mayoral election that year.
On the morning of the same day, Ahn paid respects in order to the Memorial Tower, the Unknown Soldier Tower of the Student Volunteer Army, and the graves of former Presidents Kim Dae-jung, Kim Young-sam, Rhee Syngman, and Park Chung-hee.
After offering incense at the Memorial Tower, Ahn wrote in the guestbook, "Our predecessors protected this country. Upholding their will, I will firmly protect the Republic of Korea and open a bright future for the next generation. 2020. 1. 20. Ahn Cheol-soo." He initially misspelled '대한민굴' instead of '대한민국' in the guestbook but corrected it to '대한민국'.

He continued, "Seeing the constitutional values being damaged, the people divided in half, unable to unite their strength and unable to move forward to the future, I was deeply worried," and added, "Isn't it time now for the country protected by our predecessors to move forward?"
In the afternoon, Ahn plans to move to Gwangju and visit the National May 18th Democratic Cemetery to pay respects. The Gwangju schedule will include not only lawmakers affiliated with Ahn Cheol-soo's faction in the Bareunmirae Party but also Honam-origin lawmakers Park Joo-sun, Joo Seung-yong, Kim Dong-cheol, and Kwon Eun-hee.
