Yujin Group Employees "Average Lunar New Year Expenses 903,000 KRW"... Preference for 'Gift Certificates' Gifts
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Daeseop] Eugene Group announced on the 20th that a survey conducted among its employees regarding their plans for this year's Lunar New Year revealed that the average expected expenditure during the holiday period is 903,000 KRW.
The survey targeted 1,568 employees from affiliated companies including Eugene Corporation, Eugene Investment & Securities, and Korea Express. The average planned spending during the holiday period increased with age: '50 and above' (1,109,000 KRW), '40s' (1,012,000 KRW), '30s' (855,000 KRW), and '20s' (559,000 KRW), in that order.
Regarding preferred Lunar New Year gifts, 55.4% responded that they most favored 'gift certificates for department stores, discount marts, clothing, etc.' Other preferences included 'Korean beef and other meat sets' (25.8%), 'health supplements such as red ginseng' (4.7%), 'processed foods such as canned tuna' (4.7%), and 'fruits such as apples' (4.3%).
As for gifts they did not want to receive, 'daily necessities such as toothpaste and shampoo' (28.9%), 'processed foods such as canned tuna' (13.1%), 'beverage sets such as coffee' (12.2%), 'kitchenware such as pots' (11%), and 'alcoholic beverages' (10.2%) were cited.
When asked about their return home schedule during the Lunar New Year holiday, 26.1% answered 'the morning of the first day of the holiday, the 24th.' The holiday day itself, the 25th, and the afternoon of the day before the holiday, the 23rd, followed with 17.8% and 16.1%, respectively. Return dates were reported as the 25th (29%), the afternoon of the 26th (18.8%), and the morning of the 26th (12.4%).
For those not returning home, 45.3% said they would 'rest at home.' Other responses included 'cultural activities such as attending performances' (20.8%) and 'domestic travel' (10%). The response 'I will travel abroad' accounted for 4.6%.
