[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Kwang-ho] Lee Jun-oh, Director of the National Tax Service (NTS) Investigation Bureau, has been appointed as the new Commissioner of the Central Regional National Tax Service. Gu Jin-yeol, Director of International Tax Management, was appointed as Commissioner of the Incheon Regional National Tax Service, and Choi Si-heon, Director of the Personal Taxation Bureau, was appointed as Commissioner of the Daegu Regional National Tax Service.
The NTS announced on the 17th that it had carried out the 2020 regular senior personnel reshuffle with these appointments.
This personnel reshuffle was conducted to fill vacancies due to honorary retirements, reorganize tax office structures, and ensure the smooth execution of major tasks such as value-added tax final returns and year-end tax adjustment services.
The new Central Regional Commissioner, Lee, entered public service through the 37th Administrative Examination and has held key positions including Director of the NTS Investigation Bureau, Director of the Corporate Taxation Bureau, and Director of the Seoul Regional Investigation Bureau 3.
He has been recognized for leading efforts to eradicate unfair tax evasion practices such as sophisticated tax evasion by large corporations and wealthy individuals, illicit gifting during the acquisition of high-priced real estate, intelligent offshore tax evasion, and tax evasion by businesses harming public welfare. He also contributed to the realization of fair taxation and enhancement of public trust by supporting voluntary compliance through tailored guidance materials provided via the corporate tax filing assistance service.
The new Incheon Commissioner, Gu, also from the 37th Administrative Examination, has accumulated broad and balanced expertise in tax administration through key positions at the headquarters and regional offices, a dispatch to the U.S. Internal Revenue Service, and work at the Tax Tribunal.
In particular, while serving as Director of International Tax Management and Director of the Tax Collection and Legal Affairs Bureau, he strengthened tax administration cooperation with foreign tax authorities by supporting overseas expansion companies and promoting information exchange between countries. Despite challenging conditions, he successfully consolidated tax administration capabilities to secure a stable budget for his jurisdiction, earning him recognition as a suitable candidate.
The new Daegu Commissioner, Choi, began his public service career in 1985 as an 8th-grade official and has experience in various fields of national tax administration, including Director of the Personal Taxation Bureau, Director of the Tax Collection and Legal Affairs Bureau at the Central Regional Office, Director of the Voluntary Compliance Support Bureau at the Daegu Regional Office, and Director of Investigation Division 1 at the NTS headquarters.
While serving as Director of the Personal Taxation Bureau, he played a leading role in establishing a voluntary compliance support system by expanding the provision of customized filing information to make it easier and more convenient for taxpayers to file their returns. Notably, he has over ten years of field experience in the Daegu region and previously served as Director of the Voluntary Compliance Support Bureau at the Daegu Regional Office.
Additionally, Song Ki-bong, Director of Investigation Bureau 3 at the Central Regional Office, was appointed as Director of the Computer Information Management Office at headquarters; Noh Jeong-seok, Director of the Asset Taxation Bureau, was appointed as Director of International Tax Management; Kim Jin-hyun, Director of the Income Support Bureau, was appointed as Director of the Personal Taxation Bureau; Kim Tae-ho, Director of the Computer Information Management Office, was appointed as Director of the Asset Taxation Bureau; Lim Kwang-hyun, Director of Investigation Division 1 at the Seoul Regional National Tax Service, was appointed as Director of the Investigation Bureau at headquarters; and Lee Cheong-ryong, Director of Investigation Bureau 2 at the Seoul Regional Office, was appointed as Director of the Income Support Bureau at headquarters.
