Hankook Tire Collaborates with University of Cincinnati on Design Innovation Project
[Asia Economy Reporter Suyeon Woo] Hankook Tire & Technology announced on the 16th that it is conducting the 'Design Innovation 2020' project together with the University of Cincinnati in the United States, presenting a vision for future driving.
Design Innovation, which first started in 2012, is Hankook Tire's R&D project that proposes visions and solutions for future driving through joint research with leading design universities worldwide every two years. It combines students' future-oriented ideas with Hankook Tire's technological capabilities to discover next-generation new product concepts and design ideas considering future mobility usage environments.
The theme of the 2020 project is 'Urban Reshaping,' which envisions mobility in a future environment enhanced with cutting-edge technologies such as eco-friendliness, autonomous driving, artificial intelligence (AI), and automated infrastructure, being restructured not just as a means of transportation but as a living space that transforms cities.
In particular, from this project onward, the process has been strengthened to increase the possibility of technology implementation and securing patent technologies, aiming to utilize the outcomes not only for exhibition purposes but also to secure future technological competitiveness.
Since last September, pre-planning with the collaborating school began, constructing future mobility scenarios, deriving infrastructure construction ideas suitable for the environment, and conducting concept reviews by internal experts. This year, the completed outcomes will be presented after undergoing functional and design development and patent technology securing processes by experts from Hankook Tire's research institute and design department.
The works selected as the final awardees will be unveiled at Hankook Tire's design innovation seminar, the 'Design Insight Forum,' held in September, and will subsequently be exhibited on tour at various automotive industry exhibitions.
