Kim Chang-jun Elected as the First Civilian President of Gwangju Metropolitan City Sports Council

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Kim Chang-jun, former advisory group leader of the Gwangju Metropolitan City Sports Council (Chairman of the Korea Sports Council's Community Sports Committee), has been elected as the first popularly elected president of the Gwangju Metropolitan City Sports Council.
Kim Chang-jun, the first popularly elected president of the city sports council, won 147 valid votes out of a total of 284 votes cast in the "1st Popular Election for President of the Gwangju Metropolitan City Sports Council" held on the 15th, defeating candidate Jeon Gap-su who received 137 votes, and was issued a certificate of election.
The first popular election for the city sports council president, contested by candidate Jeon Gap-su (No. 1) and candidate Kim Chang-jun (No. 2), saw a high voter turnout of 91.6%, with 284 out of 310 total electors casting their votes.
Kim Chang-jun has long been connected with sports, having served as president of the Jeollanam-do Badminton Association and president of the Gwangju Metropolitan City Community Sports Council. Additionally, after the integration of sports organizations in 2016, he served as the standing advisor and advisory group leader of the Gwangju City Sports Council, playing a supportive role.
Currently, he serves as chairman of the Korea Sports Council's Community Sports Committee and as a member of the Asian Olympic Council, actively engaging in both national and international sports activities.
Newly elected President Kim said, "Being elected as the first popularly elected president is a result achieved by all Gwangju sportspeople coming together as one. I am grateful to everyone," and added, "Going forward, I will gather wisdom with local sportspeople to transform Gwangju sports into a harmonious community encompassing both professional and community sports."
Meanwhile, the inauguration ceremony for Kim Chang-jun, the first popularly elected president of the city sports council, is scheduled to be held at 3:30 p.m. on the 16th at the multipurpose gymnasium of the Gwangju Metropolitan City Sports Council building.

About 300 people, including Gwangju Mayor Lee Yong-seop, members of the Gwangju City Council, representatives from sports organizations, and district sports councils, are expected to attend the event to congratulate the new president Kim.
