Gwangju Mayor Lee Yong-seop: "We Will Fully Open the Era of Artificial Intelligence in Gwangju"
Emphasized in Special Lecture at the 'SanHak Cooperation Forum'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] On the 15th, Lee Yong-seop, Mayor of Gwangju Metropolitan City, gave a special New Year's lecture on the theme of "The Era of Artificial Intelligence in Gwangju Opened by Innovation and Communication" at the 205th Industry-Academia Cooperation Forum held at Hotel Mudeung Park, attended by about 100 local businesspeople, academia, and related organizations.
The mayor explained, "Through innovation and communication, we were able to host the Gwangju World Swimming Championships as the most successful event ever, launched Gwangju Global Motors Co., Ltd. as the first project of the Gwangju-type job model, and started construction of Urban Railway Line 2, which had been a subject of controversy for 17 years, through deliberative public discussion."
He continued, "Going forward, we will focus on nurturing 11 representative industries that will lead the 4th Industrial Revolution, including eco-friendly vehicles, energy and hydrogen industries, artificial intelligence, and air industries, to continuously implement job-centered innovation policies. In particular, we will focus on fostering artificial intelligence, a breakthrough to surpass global cities, and open the era of artificial intelligence in Gwangju."
He added, "This year, Gwangju will establish core AI infrastructure such as an Artificial Intelligence (AI) Research Institute, Public Data Center, and Supercomputer, and nurture AI talents through AI graduate schools and academies, marking the first year of becoming a leading city of the 4th Industrial Revolution."
