Guro-gu, Volunteer Groups Join for 'Seolnal Volunteer Relay'
Sharing Event for Vulnerable Groups Including Low-Income Families and Elderly Living Alone with Services Like Haircuts, Companionship, and Meal Support... Participation Possible by Donating Items to the Community Center
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Guro-gu (Mayor Lee Seong) will carry out a Seol holiday volunteer relay in collaboration with local volunteer organizations.
On the 15th, Guro-gu announced that it will conduct volunteer activities for vulnerable groups such as low-income families and elderly living alone, who are often neglected during the traditional Korean holiday, Seol.
First, the Danjeongi volunteer group, a professional hairdressing volunteer team, will visit about 10 low-income elderly and mobility-impaired households on the 16th. The volunteer group will provide hairdressing services so that the recipients can welcome the holiday with a neat appearance.
Volunteer camp counselors in each neighborhood will provide companionship services for elderly living alone. Through phone calls or home visits, they will check the health status of the elderly and talk with them to help alleviate feelings of loneliness.
The Volunteer Cooperation Group will select and promote volunteer activities tailored to the characteristics of each neighborhood. Various activities such as sharing holiday food, delivering goods, shopping events, and meal services will be carried out targeting the elderly, disabled, and low-income youth.
Guro-gu will also hold a goods-sharing event to promote a culture of donation. Any resident wishing to help neighbors in need can bring food, daily necessities, and other items to the community service center to participate in the sharing event. Donated items will be delivered to low-income families in the district through the Guro-gu Food Bank Market. The event will continue until the 7th of next month.
