US Car Ford Sees 26% Drop in Sales in China Last Year
[Asia Economy Beijing=Special Correspondent Park Sun-mi] It has been revealed that the U.S. automaker Ford's sales volume in China decreased by 26% last year.
According to CNBC on the 13th, Ford China stated in a press release that the total car sales in China last year amounted to 567,854 units, down 26.1%. Sales in China for the fourth quarter of last year reached only 146,473 units, a 14.7% decrease compared to the same period the previous year.
Ford's sales in China have been sluggish since the end of 2017. Following a 6% decrease in 2017, sales dropped 37% in 2018. With a 26.1% decrease last year, Ford has recorded three consecutive years of declining sales.
It is highly likely that this downward sales trend will continue this year as well.
Ford China's President Anning Chen said, "This year will also be a difficult year for Ford," and forecasted, "We expect the external environmental pressures weighing on the economy and the recent atmosphere of declining car sales to continue into 2020."
Not only Ford, but another U.S. automaker, General Motors (GM), also announced that its sales volume in China last year decreased by 15% to 3.09 million units.
