After the Broadcast of 'Yeopgi Tokki Murder Case', the Sexual Offender Alert e Site Temporarily Crashed
[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Heo Midam] SBS's "Unanswered Questions" (Geu-al) has revisited the "Sinjeong-dong Bizarre Rabbit Murder Case," sparking increased interest among netizens in the "Sex Offender Notification e" service. However, caution is advised as sharing information related to sex offenders on online communities can lead to penalties.
On the 11th, Geu-al reexamined the serial murder and attempted kidnapping case that occurred near Sinjeong Station in May 2006 under the title "The Signature Bizarre Rabbit and Shoe Rack of Two Men, and a New Puzzle."
On that day, Geu-al identified two sex offenders who committed two robberies and rapes in the Sinjeong-dong area in 2008 as suspects in this case.
Following the broadcast, the "Sex Offender Notification e" website was flooded with netizens trying to check the personal information of the two individuals. As a result, the site experienced temporary access disruptions.
This site publicly discloses personal information of sex offenders who have been ordered to do so by court rulings. On the criminal information page, users can check details such as name, age, height, weight, facial and full-body photos, whether the offender is wearing an electronic tracking device, and their history of sexual offenses.
However, capturing and sending this information to acquaintances or sharing it with third parties can result in fines or other penalties.
