The living wage refers to the minimum wage level that reflects local conditions such as housing costs, education expenses, and price levels to ensure workers’ actual living is possible, contributing to workers’ livelihood stability and improvement of their real quality of life.
This manual book was created to easily convey the entire process from the often complex concept of the living wage to its actual operation to residents interested in the 2020 Gwangjin-gu living wage operation.
The ‘2020 Gwangjin-gu Living Wage Manual Book’ includes ▲Overview of the living wage system ▲2020 living wage level and calculation basis ▲Methods of applying the living wage ▲General matters related to living wage operations.
The district distributed the manual book to each department of the district office, community service centers, and the Gwangjin-gu Labor Welfare Center so that residents and administrative staff in charge of living wage-related tasks can use it effectively.
The 2020 Gwangjin-gu living wage is the same amount as the Seoul city living wage, set at 10,523 KRW per hour, which is a 3.7% increase compared to the 2019 living wage (10,148 KRW per hour).
The living wage applies to workers affiliated with the district and workers of funded and supported institutions. Notably, Gwangjin-gu has proactively expanded the scope to include workers in national and city subsidy projects among Seoul’s autonomous districts.
The district plans to review expanding the application of the living wage to the private sector, such as private consignment projects, and actively encourage private companies to adopt the living wage in the long term.
