Truck Driver in His 50s Arrested for Driving Under the Influence of Philopon
Court: "There is a risk of flight"
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] A cargo truck driver who fled police while driving under the influence of methamphetamine has been arrested.
On the 9th, Moon Seong-gwan, the judge in charge of warrants at the Seoul Southern District Court, issued an arrest warrant for Mr. A, a truck driver in his 50s, during a pre-arrest detention hearing, stating "there is a risk of flight."
Earlier, the Yeongdeungpo Police Station in Seoul had requested an arrest warrant for Mr. A on charges including obstruction of official duties and violations of the Road Traffic Act.
According to the police, on the 7th at around 6:27 p.m., Mr. A was driving a 25-ton truck on a road in Guro-gu, Seoul, and failed to comply with a police sobriety checkpoint. He then collided with a patrol car and fled the scene.
The police pursued and apprehended Mr. A, and it was confirmed that he had used methamphetamine in Incheon earlier that day before driving.
