Iran Missile Attacks on Two US Military Bases Stationed in Iraq
[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] Iran has launched a retaliatory attack against the United States.
On the 8th (local time), both the U.S. and Iranian governments confirmed that Iran fired missiles at U.S. military bases stationed in Iraq.
According to the U.S. Department of Defense, dozens of surface-to-surface missiles were launched targeting Al Asad Airbase and Erbil U.S. military base. The Iranian military stated, "Dozens of missiles struck the U.S. military bases."
An official from the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps appeared on Iranian state TV and said, "The fierce retaliation of the Revolutionary Guard has begun."
Earlier, Iran vowed retaliation after Qasem Soleimani, commander of the Quds Force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, was killed by U.S. forces.
Iranian state TV also reported that attacks on U.S. military bases stationed in Iraq have commenced.
White House spokesperson Stephanie Grisham said, "President Donald Trump has been briefed on reports that U.S. military bases in Iraq were attacked," adding, "President Trump is closely monitoring the situation and consulting with security officials on response measures."
The U.S. Department of Defense stated, "We are currently assessing the damage," and "The U.S. military will take necessary actions to protect the United States and its allies."
