Korea Assumes Co-Chairmanship of Afghanistan Military Trust Fund Board of Directors
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] South Korea has assumed the co-chairmanship of the board of directors of the Afghan National Army Trust Fund (ANATF), established to support military training, logistics, infrastructure, and command and control systems for the reconstruction and peace stabilization of Afghanistan. The term is one year, starting from the 6th.
The ANATF board co-chair countries, along with the Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), preside over the full board meeting held annually in the second quarter at NATO headquarters in Brussels, as well as three on-site board meetings held annually in Afghanistan together with NATO's senior civilian representative for Afghanistan.
South Korea has, as a responsible middle power in the international community, carried out dispatching the Dongui and Dasan units, operating Provincial Reconstruction Teams (PRT), providing bilateral official development assistance, and financial support to promote stability and peace in Afghanistan.

An official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated, "Through assuming this co-chair position, we expect to actively participate in the international community's support for Afghanistan and further enhance cooperation with NATO."
