Director Bong Joon-ho's 'Parasite' Nominated for 4 Categories at the English Academy Awards
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Jae-hee] Director Bong Joon-ho's "Parasite" won the Best Foreign Language Film at the Golden Globe Awards in the United States and has been nominated in four categories at the British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA).
The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) announced the nominees for each category on the 7th (local time), ahead of the "2020 British Academy Film Awards" ceremony to be held at the Royal Albert Hall on February 2nd (local time).
A total of 39 works were nominated.
"Parasite" was nominated in four categories: Best Film, Best Director, Best Foreign Language Film, and Best Original Screenplay.
For Best Film, it competes against "1917," "The Irishman," "Joker," and "Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood," among others.
For Best Director, nominees include Director Bong, Sam Mendes for "1917," Martin Scorsese for "The Irishman," Todd Phillips for "Joker," and Quentin Tarantino for "Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood."
"Parasite" was also nominated for Best Foreign Language Film and Best Original Screenplay.
Meanwhile, the British Academy is a major English-speaking film award that can be seen as a predictor of the American Academy Awards. The Korean film "The Handmaiden," directed by Park Chan-wook, was the first Korean film to win the Best Foreign Language Film at the British Academy Film Awards in 2018.

"Parasite" received the highest honor, the Palme d'Or, at the 72nd Cannes International Film Festival in May last year, and has since won nearly 50 trophies, including the Best Foreign Language Film at the 77th Golden Globe Awards.
