Heavy Rain of 30-80mm Until Tomorrow Afternoon... Cold Wind Starting the Day After Tomorrow
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] The rain falling nationwide today (7th) is expected to mostly stop by tomorrow morning.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration as of 4 a.m., the accumulated rainfall amounts are 16.5mm in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province, 27.1mm in Buyeo, 25.0mm in Busan (Haeundae), 21.5mm in Daegu (Seogu), 50.0mm in Gurye (Piagol), and 27.9mm in Suncheon. The expected rainfall until tomorrow afternoon is 30-80mm in the central region, 20-60mm in the southern region and Jeju, with heavy rain exceeding 120mm in Gangwon Yeongdong and over 100mm in the mountainous areas of Jeju Island.
Due to the rain and temporary thawing of the ground, there is a possibility of landslides or retaining wall collapses on slopes. Especially in the Gangwon mountainous area (5-30cm), heavy snowfall is expected, and in the inland areas of Gangwon and northern inland Gyeongbuk (1-5cm), snow accumulation is possible, so safety accidents such as collapses of vinyl greenhouses or weak structures should be carefully monitored. A heavy snow warning is expected to be issued late tonight for the northern Gangwon mountainous area.
As night falls, the rain will freeze, making many road surfaces slippery. Although the possibility of snow in the central region is still low, if the cold air moving south tonight is strong, snow may fall and accumulate in the central region as well.
From tonight through tomorrow, some areas are expected to experience gusty winds and thunder and lightning due to atmospheric instability. Starting tonight, strong wind warnings will be issued for some areas in Gyeonggi such as Ansan and Gimpo, the five western islands, Gangwon, South Chungcheong, as well as Jeolla, Gyeongbuk, Busan, Ulsan, and Incheon.
