Justice Party: "Harsher Punishment Without Political Consideration for Korean Party Lawmakers Facing 'Disqualification from Election'"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] The Justice Party has demanded strict punishment in response to the fact that Jang Je-won and Hong Cheol-ho, members of the Liberty Korea Party, were sentenced by the prosecution to a fine of 5 million won, a penalty that results in disqualification from office, in relation to the Fast Track violence incident.
On the 6th, the Justice Party stated in a briefing, "The ball is now in the court's hands. As this is the first trial regarding the violation of the National Assembly Advancement Act, the trial should be conducted swiftly and strictly."
The Justice Party pointed out, "The eyes of the public, who were outraged by the violence in the National Assembly, are now turning to the court," adding, "The crime of obstructing the National Assembly's resolution process through violence is a serious offense that barbarically tramples on democracy."
They continued, "Considering the purpose of the National Assembly Advancement Act, the trial should proceed with a stricter and more severe standard, and harsh punishment should be imposed without any political considerations," adding, "We hope that all responsible parties from the Liberty Korea Party who instigated this violent act will receive the appropriate punishment."
Meanwhile, on the same day, Hwang Kyo-ahn, leader of the Liberty Korea Party, expressed his intention to take responsibility and stand together with those indicted for the Fast Track violence incident. At the Supreme Council meeting, he said, "We will protect the righteous people who defend the constitutional order," and added, "Indicting 27 members of the Liberty Korea Party, including myself, party members, and aides, is a massacre against the Liberty Korea Party and a clear oppression of the opposition."
