Yeongsangang Regional Environmental Office Conducts On-site Inspection of Incineration Facilities
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Yeongsangang River Basin Environmental Office (Director Kim Sang-hoon) announced on the 3rd that it will conduct an inspection of the incineration facility (Chodang Environment Co., Ltd.) located at 306-23 Geumdong Hakdong-gil, Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, where fine dust reduction measures are being implemented.
This is in response to the fine dust crisis alert level 'Interest' being issued for Gwangju Metropolitan City and other areas starting from 6 a.m. on the 4th, with the 'Emergency Fine Dust Reduction Measures' being enforced until 9 p.m. that day.
During the on-site inspection, they will check whether the workplace is implementing fine dust reduction measures, such as adjusting the operating rate (from 100% to 85%) and increasing the amount of chemicals injected into the incineration facility's prevention equipment.
Additionally, a special inspection team will be deployed to conduct inspections focusing on large workplaces to suppress fine dust emissions.
Kim Sang-hoon, Director of the Yeongsangang River Basin Environmental Office, stated, “We will strengthen supervision of workplaces to minimize damage caused by high concentrations of fine dust and to reduce pollutants.”
Meanwhile, this fine dust reduction measure is the first to be implemented in Gwangju Metropolitan City since the establishment of the 'Crisis Management Standard Manual.' According to the manual, the Ministry of Environment issues a crisis alert for the relevant area, and Gwangju City implements emergency reduction measures accordingly.
On the 3rd, the daily average concentration of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) exceeded 50㎍/㎥, and it is expected to exceed 50㎍/㎥ tomorrow as well, meeting the issuance criteria.
Accordingly, emergency reduction measures will be implemented at large workplaces and construction sites operated by private companies, administrative, and public institutions in Gwangju City.
Workplaces that emit large amounts of fine dust, such as waste incineration facilities (3 sites) and public facilities like sewage treatment plants, must take measures such as changing operating hours, adjusting operating rates, or improving efficiency.
Construction sites must implement dust suppression measures such as changing or adjusting construction hours, operating water spraying trucks, and covering with dustproof tarps.
If workplaces and construction sites subject to emergency reduction measures violate these regulations, a fine of up to 2 million KRW will be imposed.
