[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Yeongdeungpo-gu (Mayor Chae Hyun-il) will start issuing the Zero Pay-based mobile local currency ‘Yeongdeungpo Sarang Gift Certificate’ from the 15th.
The ‘Yeongdeungpo Sarang Gift Certificate’ is a mobile gift certificate that can be used within the Yeongdeungpo-gu area, offering consumers a 7% discount and small business owners a 0% payment fee benefit, thereby promoting the revitalization of the local economy.
The gift certificates can be purchased up to 500,000 KRW per person per month and can be used at 9,447 Zero Pay affiliated stores within the region. Assuming a monthly use of 500,000 KRW for one year, this represents an exceptional benefit of saving up to 420,000 KRW.
Additionally, during special sales periods including the upcoming Lunar New Year holiday, extra discounts of up to 10% will be provided, along with a 30% income tax deduction benefit for year-end tax settlement.
The Yeongdeungpo Sarang Gift Certificates are issued in three denominations: 10,000 KRW, 50,000 KRW, and 100,000 KRW. Users can purchase the certificates by downloading the related app from the app store.
There are a total of nine apps available for purchase: CheckPay, MoneyTree, BizPlay, NongHyup All One Bank, Gyeongnam Bank To You Bank, Busan Bank Some Bank, Daegu Bank IM Shop(#), Gwangju Bank Personal Banking, and Jeonbuk Bank New Smart Banking.
The usage method of the gift certificates is the same as the existing Zero Pay payment method. Consumers present the QR code generated through the gift certificate purchase app to be scanned by the merchant’s device, or scan the seller’s QR code displayed at the merchant and directly enter the amount to complete the purchase.
As of December 8, there are 9,447 Zero Pay affiliated stores in Yeongdeungpo-gu, including restaurants, neighborhood marts, academies, beauty salons, pharmacies, flower shops, convenience stores, and more. Residents can visit nearby stores and check for the Zero Pay affiliated store mark displayed on entrances or counters.
This initiative aims to increase local consumption by residents, thereby boosting sales for small business owners. Usage is restricted at large supermarkets, department stores, large corporate affiliates, some franchises, and gambling and entertainment businesses.
The district plans to support the expansion of Zero Pay affiliated stores to promote wider use of the Yeongdeungpo Sarang Gift Certificate.
