Korea Federation of SMEs Opens Applications for the 1st Foreign Worker Employment in 2020
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Daeseop] The Korea Federation of SMEs announced on the 2nd that it will accept applications for the '1st Foreign Worker Employment Application' for 2020.
The application period is from the 2nd to the 16th. The target countries are 16 countries including Nepal, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Uzbekistan, and Cambodia. A prior domestic worker recruitment application (14 days elapsed) must be submitted through the Ministry of Employment and Labor's Worknet website.
Small and medium-sized enterprises wishing to employ foreign workers can check related information on the Federation of SMEs website. Applications can be submitted via fax, visit, or mail to the Federation of SMEs (regional headquarters).
For companies applying to employ foreign workers, the Ministry of Employment and Labor comprehensively evaluates factors such as the employment performance of domestic workers arranged by employment centers, the number of foreign workers employed, and compliance with foreign worker-specific insurance. The list of approved companies eligible to employ foreign workers will be announced on the 3rd of next month. From the 7th to the 12th of next month, employment permits will be issued to the approved companies.
The 2020 quota for new foreign workers in the manufacturing industry is 30,130. Allocations will be made in January (9,039), March (9,039), June (6,026), and September (6,026).

Lee Taehee, Head of the Smart Job Division at the Federation of SMEs, said, "Foreign workers work in 3D industries that domestic workers avoid, generating positive effects such as maintaining domestic employment. In the new year, we will strive to collect opinions from SMEs and reflect them in government policies to facilitate the employment of foreign workers, who play a vital role in the manpower supply of SMEs."
