Korea GM, Domestic Sales of 76,471 Units in 2019... 'Annual 100,000 Units' Broken for 2 Consecutive Years
Domestic Sales 76,471 Units · Exports 340,755 Units... 9.9% Decrease Compared to Previous Year
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ji-hee] Korea GM announced on the 2nd that it sold a total of 417,226 units in 2019. This represents a 9.9% decrease compared to the same period last year.
Domestic sales amounted to 76,471 units, down 18.1%, while exports recorded 340,755 units, a 7.8% decrease. In particular, domestic sales fell below the 100,000-unit mark for the second consecutive year following 2018.
In the domestic market in December, a total of 8,820 units were sold, setting the highest monthly sales record for 2019. This figure represents a sharp increase of 20.4% compared to the previous month. Accordingly, Korea GM continued a double-digit recovery in domestic sales for three consecutive months.
Last month, the Chevrolet Spark, Malibu, and Trax recorded their highest monthly sales of the year. On an annual basis, they sold 35,513 units, 12,210 units, and 12,541 units respectively, accounting for 79% of total domestic sales.
The Spark sold 3,931 units in December, a 24.3% increase from the previous month, while the Malibu sold 1,236 units, up 59.5% during the same period. The Trax recorded 1,376 units in the domestic market in December, a 31.3% increase compared to the previous month. The Trax’s 2019 export volume was 210,934 units, surpassing the 200,000-unit mark for six consecutive years since 2014.
The Colorado and Traverse sold 646 units and 416 units respectively. The six Chevrolet models imported and sold, including the Traverse, Colorado, Equinox, Bolt EV, Camaro SS, and Impala, maintained monthly sales of over 1,500 units in December following November, showing a successful entry into the imported car market.

Meanwhile, Chevrolet is offering various benefits to customers purchasing Chevrolet products throughout January under the ‘2020 Chevrolet, Find New Year!’ campaign. Additionally, a 'Lunar New Year Customer Test Drive Event' will be held, allowing 50 selected customers by lottery to test drive models such as the Traverse, Colorado, and Equinox for six days from January 23 to 28 during the Lunar New Year holiday.
