[New Year's Message] Kim Hyun-joon, Commissioner of the National Tax Service, "Active Recovery of Hidden Assets... Strict Response to Intelligent and Intentional Tax Evasion"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwangho Lee] On the 2nd, Kim Hyun-jun, Commissioner of the National Tax Service, stated, "The headquarters, regional offices, and tax offices must cooperate organically to actively recover hidden assets."
In his New Year's address, Commissioner Kim said, "Considering the severe economic conditions, we will reduce the total number of investigations and ease the investigation burden on small and medium taxpayers, but we must respond more strictly to intelligent and deliberate tax evasion and delinquency acts that go against a fair society."
Commissioner Kim emphasized, "We must strictly verify tax evasion related to irregular gifts during the acquisition of high-priced real estate, tax evasion by high-income professionals receiving preferential treatment, and tax evasion by high-fee private academies. Furthermore, we must build a precise and robust taxation infrastructure to systematically block omitted and evaded tax sources."
He also urged, "We must respond with full force to deliberate delinquents who hide assets and lead luxurious lifestyles, based on strengthened delinquency collection measures such as expanding the scope of financial information inquiries and introducing detention order systems."
Commissioner Kim continued, "We will expand the tax revenue base by maximizing support for sincere reporting," and stressed, "In response to changes in the digital ecosystem, tax reporting and payment should be improved to be conveniently conducted via mobile."
He added, "We will extend tax support measures for self-employed and small business owners until the end of this year to reduce their tax burden," and said, "We will conduct 'Small and Medium Enterprise Tax Consulting' to help SMEs with growth potential resolve uncertainties regarding tax audits in advance."
In particular, he stated, "Kind tax services and fair tax law enforcement come from the confidence based on the professional capabilities of national tax officials," and expressed, "We must improve working conditions by expanding office buildings and dormitories, creating childcare environments, and establishing customized education systems for new and experienced employees."
