Submission of Non-Attendance Statement... Yoon's Attorneys Attend

Former President Yoon Seokyeol did not attend the trial on charges of being the ringleader of insurrection, which was held for the first time since his re-arrest. This is the first time that former President Yoon has been absent from his insurrection trial.


The Criminal Agreement Division 25 of the Seoul Central District Court (Presiding Judge Ji Guyoun) held the 10th hearing on charges of being the ringleader of insurrection and abuse of power against former President Yoon at 10:15 a.m. on this day. One hour before the trial began, Yoon's legal team submitted a 'statement of non-attendance due to health reasons'.


Former President Yoon's attorneys attended the trial and remained present in the courtroom.

Previously, at around 2:07 a.m. on this day, Chief Judge Nam Sejin, who is in charge of warrants at the Seoul Central District Court, issued an arrest warrant for former President Yoon. After completing the pre-arrest suspect interrogation (warrant hearing) on July 9 and waiting at Seoul Detention Center in Uiwang City, Gyeonggi Province, former President Yoon was immediately taken into custody.


Former President Yoon, who was first arrested on January 19, was released on March 8 following a court decision to cancel his detention and has since been tried without detention. Now that he has returned to detainee status, former President Yoon will have to travel from Seoul Detention Center in Uiwang City, Gyeonggi Province, to the court in Seocho-dong, Seocho-gu, Seoul to attend future trials.


At the trial on this day, Ko Donghee, former Director of Planning at the Defense Security Command (Colonel), and Jeong Seongwoo, former Director of Counterintelligence Division 1 at the Defense Counterintelligence Command (Brigadier General), are scheduled to testify as witnesses.
