Democratic Party Nominates Park Geunyeong for Gyeongju Mayor and Jeong Seokwon for Goryeong Governor as Sole Candidates
The Public Office Candidate Recommendation Management Committee of the Democratic Party Gyeongbuk Provincial Party (Chairman Oh Ilyoung) held a meeting and announced additional candidates on May 10 for two basic local government heads, three metropolitan council seats, and two basic council seats.
The Candidate Recommendation Committee of the Gyeongbuk Provincial Party additionally and exclusively recommended Park Geunyeong (former director of the Korea Tourism Association) for Mayor of Gyeongju, and Jeong Seokwon (current head of the Democratic Party's Goryeong-Seongju-Chilgok District Committee) for Governor of Goryeong County, following interviews with the candidates on the same day.
In addition, the committee exclusively recommended Choi Insik (former Yeongju City Council member) for the second metropolitan council district of Yeongju, Jang Malseon (former operations committee member of Gyeongsan Culture Center) for the fourth metropolitan council district of Gyeongsan, and Kim Daeyeon (former president of the Korean Red Cross Yeongyang County Council) for the metropolitan council district of Yeongyang. For the basic council seats, Heo Jongmun (current vice chairman of the Democratic Party Pohang-Nam-Ulleung District Committee) was recommended for Pohang City constituency A, and Lee Jeongim (former two-term Gumi City Council member) was recommended for Gumi City constituency B.
The Democratic Party Gyeongbuk Provincial Party noted that, as of now, it nominated candidates for eight basic local government head positions in the 8th local elections in 2022, but this time, the number has increased to 18. The number of metropolitan council seats has increased from 15 to 21, and the number of basic council seats has risen from 63 to 71.
