Yeongcheon City to Make Early Payment of 8.3 Billion Won in Farmers and Fishers Allowance This Year
Lump Sum Payment of 600,000 Won to Over 13,800 Farms
Easing Financial Strain on Farms Amid Middle East Conflict
On May 6, Yeongcheon City in North Gyeongsang Province announced that it would make an early, lump-sum payment of the "2026 Farmers and Fishers Allowance," totaling 8.3 billion won, to approximately 13,800 farms in the city, ahead of the usual schedule.
This administrative decision by Yeongcheon City aims to support local farms struggling due to unstable international conditions, such as the war in the Middle East, as well as rising fertilizer and agricultural material prices.
The city expects this measure, together with the government’s ongoing high oil price damage support payments, to create a synergistic effect in alleviating the management burden on farms.
This year, the payment of the Farmers and Fishers Allowance has been moved forward compared to last year, and a lump sum of 600,000 won will be paid once a year via a dedicated card.
Existing cardholders will have their points recharged on May 6 without any additional procedures, and can use them immediately.
Those who need a new or replacement card can visit their local eup, myeon, or dong administrative welfare center starting today to receive their card, which will be usable from May 7.
The Farmers and Fishers Allowance is a project designed to support farmers who maintain the public value of agriculture, and it can only be used within the Yeongcheon area, thereby promoting local consumption and invigorating the real economy.
