"I Will Restore Parliamentary Democracy Standing on the Brink"
Bae-Sook Cho, a five-term senior lawmaker from the People Power Party, has announced her candidacy for Deputy Speaker in the second half of the 22nd National Assembly.
On May 8, at a press conference held at the National Assembly's communication center, Assemblywoman Cho declared, "With a sense of urgency to restore parliamentary democracy, which is on the brink, and to create a National Assembly that protects the lives of the people, I am announcing my candidacy for Deputy Speaker."
She stated, "As I witness a National Assembly where political strife takes precedence over the people's livelihood, I cannot help but feel a heavy sense of responsibility as a five-term senior lawmaker, thinking of the deep dismay and fatigue the people must feel."
She went on to say, "The National Assembly needs to change now. It should not just be a place of conflict, but a place where problems are solved." She also stated, "I will become a symbol of that change."
Assemblywoman Cho explained, "I will break the glass ceiling of conservatism and become a beacon of hope for the future of Korea." She also said, "I will use the experience I have gained from five terms in office as a tool for bipartisan cooperation to improve people's livelihoods." She emphasized, "As the daughter of Honam, I will become the catalyst for integration that transcends regions and generations."
Assemblywoman Cho also remarked, "This Deputy Speaker election will be a test to show how deeply the People Power Party is reflecting and how boldly we are prepared to pursue innovation."
She added, "With a willingness to bear the cross, I will take the lead. I will set aside outdated habits and vested interests, and devote all my political capital to regaining the public's trust."
