Han Jia Vows "I'll Go to Busan Ten or Even a Hundred Times" Despite Jang Donghyuk's Warning
Hanja Lee, a member of the People Power Party, has announced her intention to support independent candidate Donghoon Han in the Busan Buk-gap parliamentary by-election, despite warnings from party leadership including Representative Donghyuk Jang.
On May 5, at a press conference held at the National Assembly, Assemblywoman Lee stated, "If it helps the reconstruction of the conservative movement, I will go down to Busan ten times, a hundred times, as many times as needed."
She added, "Representative Jang and the party leadership have warned of disciplinary action against me. I have never been afraid," emphasizing, "What is needed now is not discipline, but unity." She went on to say, "I hope we stop internal strife and focus on devising a strategy."
Earlier that day, Representative Jang commented regarding Assemblywoman Lee's support for candidate Han, "If you have become a member of the National Assembly through the party's nomination, you have both a role and a responsibility." He also said, "We will clarify the facts regarding the current situation and take any necessary actions afterward."
Assemblywoman Lee also remarked, "During the last presidential candidate selection, there were members who supported Deoksoo Han, who later became an independent candidate," adding, "I will accept disciplinary action on the same basis and under the same standards as those members."
Another pro-Han lawmaker, Dongjin Ko, said, "Donghoon Han, who is running in the by-election with the values of conservative reconstruction, is an important asset to the conservative movement," and questioned, "Is it normal to discuss disciplinary action simply for supporting him?"
