Progressive Party candidate Kim Juup, running for North District Governor, has completed his registration for the 9th local elections and has begun campaigning in earnest to win over voters. Kim is appealing for support, stating that he aims to elevate North District to city status, overcome its poor finances, and lead a political revolution in the Honam region.
On May 14, the first day of candidate registration for the 9th nationwide local elections, Progressive Party candidate Kim Juup—who also serves as the Gwangju City Committee Chair of the Progressive Party—officially registered and launched his full-scale election campaign.

View original imageKim assessed, "The most urgent issue is to upgrade the district to city status and secure a budget commensurate with that status." He likened the current North District to "an athlete lacking basic physical strength." He stressed that, no matter how skilled an athlete is, without foundational stamina, true ability cannot be demonstrated; likewise, North District's budget and autonomy must be raised to the level of Jeonnam cities and counties in order to implement policies for genuine development.
Kim’s core plan is to upgrade North District to city status, thereby opening a path to resolve its poor local finances, and ultimately develop it into a leading city that encompasses both Jeonnam and Gwangju.
