A Break from Digital Devices like Smartphones
Cultivating Concentration, Strategic Thinking, Cooperation, and Healthy Competition
The Wanju County Youth Culture Center in North Jeolla Province operated an experiential program for youth called "Board Game Challenge: The Three Board Game Masters," which received an enthusiastic response from participants.
According to Wanju County on April 28, 2026, the program focused on using board games to cultivate concentration and strategic thinking, while also providing opportunities for cooperation among peers and fostering healthy competition. Participating youths learned the rules of three main games and engaged in both individual and team-based activities, enhancing their judgment and coordination skills.
At the beginning of the educational course, participants built their foundations by understanding the game rules and practicing individually. The program then progressed to group competitions that helped strengthen their quick-thinking and concentration skills. A notable feature was the increased level of difficulty with each session to maintain participants’ engagement.
The students responded positively, saying that the program allowed them to interact with their peers and break away from leisure activities centered around digital devices. The Wanju County Youth Culture Center is continuously recruiting elementary school students for its board game programs, which are designed to foster thinking skills and teamwork.
