Samsung Electronics Officially Decides to Withdraw Some Home Appliance Businesses from China
Mobile, Semiconductor, and Medical Device Businesses to Continue
Samsung Electronics has officially decided to withdraw from certain businesses in China, including home appliances and TVs. However, the company plans to continue its operations in mobile, semiconductor, and medical device sectors. This move is interpreted as a strategy of selection and concentration amid aggressive low-price competition from local Chinese companies.
According to industry sources on May 6, Samsung Electronics has decided to restructure its business in mainland China and notified local distribution channels and partners of its plan to discontinue the sales of home appliances and TVs. Existing customers who have purchased Samsung Electronics home appliance products will continue to receive free or paid services in accordance with the Chinese Consumer Protection Law and other relevant regulations, depending on the period of use and the nature of any defects after purchase.
Separately, the company will maintain its business in mobile, semiconductor, and medical device sectors in China. In particular, Samsung will continue to introduce China-specific smartphones and services, such as the Galaxy AI-powered W Series (Shenjie Tianxia), targeting the local market. Samsung also plans to expand collaborations with leading local AI companies to develop optimal AI features for consumers.
