Participation of External Experts from Policy, Technology, and Industry Sectors
"Expectations for Building a Sustainable Data Ecosystem"
On May 21, KT announced the establishment of the "Personal Information Protection Advisory Committee," a strategic governance body aimed at strengthening its proactive personal information management system.
This initiative is designed to address changes in the personal information processing environment due to the advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) technology and the proliferation of data-driven services, with the goal of restoring customer trust and building a responsible data utilization ecosystem.
The committee will provide advice on key matters to enhance KT's personal information protection capabilities, including measures for fulfilling obligations and reinforcing responsibilities as a personal information handler; protective measures for ensuring the security of personal information and the appropriateness of data usage; and strategies for preventing personal information leakage incidents and upgrading systems to prevent recurrence.
The committee members include Heung Yeol Yeom (Professor Emeritus, Department of Information Security, Soonchunhyang University), Hee Jung Lee (Professor, School of Law, Korea University), Jae Cheol Ryu (Professor, School of Computer Convergence, Chungnam National University), Ki Wook Son (Professor, Department of Computer Engineering, Seoul National University of Science and Technology), Sang Hyun Shim (Secretary General, Korea CPO Forum), and Kyung-Ah Kim (CEO of J&Security), among others. KT plans to gradually expand the committee.
KT will launch the advisory committee later this month and begin its full-scale operations. At the inaugural ceremony, KT CEO Park Yoon-Young will attend, present letters of appointment to the committee members, and discuss directions for advancing KT's personal information protection framework.
