Gyeonggi Province Launches Crowdfunding Campaign with Nine Independent Baseball Teams
Gyeonggi Province will conduct a crowdfunding campaign featuring nine independent baseball teams within the province through the crowdfunding platform "CultureMoa" until June 10.
Independent baseball teams serve as a stage where players who have not advanced to the professional league or have been released come together to compete and take another shot at making it to the pros.
Gyeonggi Province has planned this crowdfunding project to create a new fan-participatory cheering culture with the involvement of baseball fans and the local community. Crowdfunding is a method in which the general public pools funds to participate in or invest in a specific project.
For this campaign, when fans select and pay for a project by their favorite team, they will receive a limited-edition team uniform top as a reward. The participating teams are all nine in the province: Yeoncheon Miracle, Seongnam Magpies, Pocheon Monster, Gapyeong Wales, Suwon Pine Eagles, Goyang PIC, Hwaseong Coriyo, Ansan Waves, and Dongducheon Prius.
The funding amount is 80,000 won per person, with a target of raising a total of 28.8 million won based on 360 uniforms for all nine teams. Residents of the province and baseball fans who wish to participate can make a payment by visiting the website (www.onoffmix.com/culturemoa), and by applying a "Gyeonggi Culture Pass" app coupon, they can receive a discount benefit.
The funds raised will be fully used to broaden the base for the sustainable growth of independent baseball in areas such as public relations for the Gyeonggi Province Independent Baseball League, player support, and environmental improvements.
Meanwhile, the Gyeonggi Province League, which was established in 2019, has become a practical growth platform by producing a total of 52 players who have advanced to professional teams, including Hwang Youngmook of the Hanwha Eagles and Son Hoyoung of the Lotte Giants. This year’s regular season began in March and is being played over 144 games; the first half concluded on May 20, and the second half will begin on May 25.
