[Weather] Strong Rain Nationwide... Umbrella Essential for Morning Commute
On Thursday, May 21, rain is expected to fall in most regions nationwide, gradually stopping in the afternoon. However, rain may continue until the evening in the eastern coast and mountainous areas of Gangwon Province, as well as on Jeju Island.
Heavy rainfall is expected, especially in central regions and along the southern coast, so caution is advised for safety accidents and traffic congestion during the morning commute. In some areas, strong rain accompanied by gusty winds, thunder, and lightning is also expected.

View original imageExpected precipitation is 30 to 80 mm for Seoul, Incheon, Gyeonggi Province, and the five West Sea islands. Incheon, the western coast of Gyeonggi Province, and the five West Sea islands may receive more than 100 mm of rain. The eastern coast and mountainous areas of Gangwon Province are expected to receive 50 to 150 mm. In the Chungcheong region—Daejeon, Sejong, South Chungcheong, and North Chungcheong—30 to 80 mm of rain is forecast, while Gwangju, South Jeolla, and North Jeolla are expected to receive 20 to 60 mm, and Jeju Island is expected to receive 10 to 80 mm. Some mountainous areas in Jeju may see over 120 mm of rainfall.
In areas where rain continues through the morning, gusty winds, thunder, and lightning are possible, and most regions nationwide are expected to experience strong winds until dawn. The maximum instantaneous wind speed is forecast to reach around 55 km/h in general areas and around 70 km/h in mountainous regions.
Morning low temperatures will range from 13 to 19 degrees Celsius, and daytime high temperatures will range from 17 to 25 degrees Celsius, which is similar to or slightly higher than the average for this time of year.
The morning low temperatures in major cities are as follows: Seoul 16 degrees, Incheon 17 degrees, Daejeon 16 degrees, Gwangju 18 degrees, Daegu 17 degrees, Busan 19 degrees, and Jeju 20 degrees.
Daytime high temperatures are expected to be: Seoul 20 degrees, Incheon 21 degrees, Daejeon 22 degrees, Gwangju 20 degrees, Daegu 24 degrees, Busan 22 degrees, and Jeju 23 degrees.
