Gumi Office of Education Launches Student Participation Campaign for Drug Prevention
Fostering a Healthy School Culture
Raising Awareness on Drug and Substance Abuse
On May 20, the Gumi Office of Education in North Gyeongsang Province (Superintendent Min Byeongdo) took action to foster a healthy school culture among students and to raise awareness about the dangers of drug and substance abuse.
In collaboration with the Korea Association Against Drug Abuse (KAADA) North Gyeongsang Chapter, the second "Student Participation Relay Campaign for Prevention of Drug and Substance Abuse" was held at Gumo Middle School, following the first event at Otae Elementary School in April.

Moving away from traditional one-way promotional approaches, the campaign allowed students to freely participate in a four-step experiential program conducted during lunch break.
In Step 1, students could easily understand the risks of drugs through a true-or-false quiz. Step 2 involved reading refusal practice phrases while spinning a roulette wheel to help develop coping skills. Step 3 provided guidance on how to seek help in emergency situations and introduced available counseling agencies.
The final Step 4 concluded with students making a pledge by loudly reciting a declaration statement in front of a police officer, verbally affirming their own commitment.
Superintendent Min Byeongdo stated, "Adolescence is a crucial period for the formation of correct values, so it is important for students to not just passively listen to education but to actively participate and put it into practice. We will continue to promote various participatory prevention activities so that students can make healthy choices on their own."
