The total length of the project section is 1,158 meters, with a total project budget of 9 billion won. The project also includes the construction of new sidewalks, focusing on enhancing the safety of both vehicles and pedestrians.
This initiative is part of the '3rd Mid- to Long-term Hazardous Road Structure Improvement Plan.' The city explained that it has strengthened safety and expertise by receiving technical support from the Korea Road Traffic Authority from the detailed design stage onward.
Additionally, the city completed the selection of the contractor in January 2026, and after establishing a safety management plan and coordinating with relevant agencies, full-scale construction is scheduled to begin at the end of May 2026. The project aims for completion in January 2029.
In particular, regarding issues related to the handling of trees during construction, Mokpo City has adopted eco-friendly methods. The city stated that, taking into account local conditions, it will pursue tree transplantation wherever possible and, for unavoidable removals, will consult with environmental groups to build consensus.
A city official said, "Once the sharp curve sections are improved and the pedestrian environment is upgraded, we expect a significant reduction in traffic accident risks. As some traffic inconvenience is anticipated during the construction period, we ask for citizens' cooperation."
