From Fisheries to AI and the Arctic Route: What Are Busan's Future Strategies After One Year of Observation?
National Pukyong University (President Bae Sanghoon) marked the first anniversary of its regular event, "Busan Speaks," which has served as a forum for discussing Busan's future strategies with local institutional leaders.
On May 20, National Pukyong University announced that "Busan Speaks," launched in May of last year, has established itself as a networking platform for opinion leaders from the local government, industry, academia, and research sectors.
The event, which is held monthly, centers around key issues and the future vision for Busan. Participants include representatives from the university, the Busan Metropolitan Government, research institutes, financial institutions, and companies, who have discussed the direction of regional development and ways to foster cooperation.
To date, the forum has covered topics such as convergence between the fisheries sector and AI, the marine biotechnology industry, strategies for responding to the Arctic shipping route, marine semiconductors, and the advancement of the shipbuilding equipment industry—each related to Busan's future industries.
In addition, a wide range of subjects have been addressed, including strategies for transforming Busan into a global hub city and maritime capital, innovation in finance and logistics, the blockchain industry, corporate relocation, and revitalization of tourism and gastronomy industries. National Pukyong University also published an archive booklet summarizing the discussions over the past year.
Regional public and research institutions participated in the event, including Busan Metropolitan Government, Busan Institute for Scientific and Technological Advancement, Korea Fisheries Resources Agency, Korea Research Institute of Ships and Ocean Engineering, Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology, Korea Maritime Institute, Financial Supervisory Service, Busan Technopark, and the Busan Branch of the Bank of Korea.
Local companies such as Geumyang Shipping, Samjin Food, Eogiya Factory, and Marine Drone Technology have also joined, thereby expanding the industry-academic-research cooperation network.
