Keimyung University Department of Police Administration Marks 30th Anniversary, Emerges as Leading Public Safety Talent Hub with Over 1,600 Graduates
Over 150 Alumni Pledge 120 Million Won in Development Funds
Securing Growth Momentum for the Department
Keimyung University (President Shin Ilhee) announced that the Department of Police Administration in the College of Social Sciences held a ceremony on May 16 at the Unje Room in Uiyang Hall, Seongseo Campus to commemorate its 30th anniversary, reflect on the department's achievements, and present its future vision.
The ceremony was attended by alumni, current students, and key guests. Adding significance to the event, on the previous day, May 15, which is Teachers' Day, the student council presented a token of appreciation to President Shin Ilhee.
In his welcoming speech, President Shin Ilhee stated, "I am proud that the Department of Police Administration has contributed to the local community over the past 30 years," and added, "I hope the department will continue to play a central role in cultivating outstanding talent to lead public safety."
Lee Joongu, Chairman of the Daegu Metropolitan Police Commission, remarked, "Our graduates are playing important roles in various fields," and continued, "I hope they will continue to grow as key talent responsible for regional security."
Voluntary donations from alumni also continued at the event.
More than 150 faculty members and alumni pledged a total development fund of 120 million won.
Notably, donations from Attorney Choi Euncheol of the first graduating class and Tax Accountant Yun Jinseok of the eighth graduating class drew attention.
Attorney Choi Euncheol, the department's first successful candidate for the bar exam, donated a cumulative total of 48 million won—having pledged 18 million won for the 20th anniversary and an additional 30 million won for the 30th anniversary.
Tax Accountant Yun Jinseok, expressing a desire to help juniors from financially challenged backgrounds, contributed 12 million won over the past five years and pledged an additional 12 million won this time, bringing his total to 24 million won.
On this day, scholarships named after the two alumni were awarded to six current students.
Additionally, plaques of appreciation were presented to those who contributed to the department's development, and congratulatory video messages from National Assemblyman Yoon Jaeok and Daegu Metropolitan Police Agency Chief Kim Byungwoo, along with congratulatory messages from other key figures, were shared.
Department Chair Heo Kyungmi declared the department's vision, stating, "The Department of Police Administration will continue to nurture professionals who contribute to achieving a crime-free society," and added, "We will place greater emphasis on field-oriented education and the training of executive-level talent."
Meanwhile, since its establishment in 1996, the Department of Police Administration at Keimyung University has produced over 1,300 police officers—including police executive candidates—and a total of more than 1,600 public safety professionals in fields such as the prosecution, judiciary, and correctional services over the past 30 years.
In particular, in 2025, the department produced 59 public service professionals, including eight officials at grade 7 or higher.
Through these achievements, the department has gone beyond simply increasing the number of graduates to consistently nurture executive-level talent and establish itself as a prestigious department representing the region.
The foundation for these accomplishments lies in a systematic curriculum and close guidance from the faculty.
From the initial stage of enrollment, students receive career counseling by job series to set their goals, and tailored guidance by sub-major—such as police studies, criminology, and law—supports their entry into public service.
Additionally, the department has strengthened its practice-oriented education through the operation of an in-house study hall, scholarships, textbook support, field training, and special lectures by criminal justice experts. In anticipation of the revised practical exam for police officer recruitment in 2026, the department has also proactively expanded its educational infrastructure by installing a rotating physical fitness testing system.
