People Power Party’s Kim Daegwon, Candidate for Daegu Suseong District Mayor, Pledges 285 Billion Won Office Relocation... 17,000㎡ Site with Nine Above-Ground Floors
Daegwon Kim, candidate for Daegu Suseong District Mayor from the People Power Party, announced on May 17 his pledge to relocate and rebuild the aging Suseong District Office near Beomeo Park and to construct two new community-focused Administrative Welfare Centers. The current Suseong District Office building, completed in 1978 and now 47 years old, has suffered from chronic space shortages, resulting in around 140 public officials working in leased buildings outside the main office.
Kim stated, "The current Suseong District Office suffers from outdated facilities and a lack of space, which has reduced the efficiency of administrative services and caused ongoing inconvenience to residents." He added, "We will pursue the construction of a new office building equipped with a work environment that can meet future administrative needs such as digital and AI-based smart administration, and realize an eco-friendly green building."

The planned structure will have two underground floors and nine above-ground floors, with a total floor area of 44,000 square meters. The total project cost is estimated at 285 billion won, including 100 billion won for site acquisition, 10 billion won for design, 170 billion won for construction, and 5 billion won for other expenses. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2028 and be completed by 2030.
The relocation of the Suseong District Office has emerged as a central issue in the current local elections, going beyond a simple administrative facility move. Although the plan is to cover the entire 285 billion won project cost from the district's own funds, the currently secured budget is insufficient, making political cooperation with the next Daegu mayor essential.
The new office will be designed as a future-oriented, flexible, multifunctional space. There are plans to create an open space connected to the surrounding Beomeo Park, and to build an eco-friendly structure that considers climate change response through energy independence and green architecture.

Kim also unveiled a plan to build two new Administrative Welfare Centers. Moving away from the traditional concept of standardized neighborhood offices, the centers will concentrate shared spaces for residents on the first and second floors to provide a variety of administrative services and cultural spaces. In particular, the new buildings will feature artistic and creative architectural designs, with the intention of utilizing them as local tourism resources.
