Kang Ki-yoon's Election Committee to Song Soon-ho: "Innocence Proven by Election Commission Investigation, Stop Spreading Fake News"
Concealing the Fact of Exclusion from Investigation
Inciting 'Election Annulment' and Intimidating Citizens,
A Vile Political Tactic
The election committee of Kang Ki-yoon, the People Power Party candidate for mayor of Changwon, Gyeongnam (hereinafter referred to as the election committee), strongly condemned on May 15 the emergency briefing by Song Soon-ho, the Democratic Party candidate, calling it "fake news and a low-level political maneuver aimed solely at winning the election by intimidating citizens."
Kang's election committee refuted Song's camp for trying to link the investigation request involving Korea South-East Power to Kang's alleged violation of the election law, stating, "They are skillfully distorting the truth and misleading viewers."

However, as no evidence meeting the requirements for criminal charges was found, Kang was ultimately excluded from the list of those subject to investigation.
The committee pointed out, "Even though a state agency has officially confirmed Kang's innocence, raising the possibility of his election being annulled is a clear case of spreading false information."
Regarding the Supreme Court precedent (96Do620) cited by Song, the committee dismissed it as "a crude slander by forcibly connecting an entirely unrelated case to the current issue."
Kang's camp explained that Korea South-East Power's practice of offering tours and souvenirs has long been a legitimate social contribution activity and a part of win-win management as a public enterprise relocated to the provinces.
Additionally, in response to concerns about administrative disruption raised by citing a previous mayor's case, the committee stated, "Comparing a clean candidate who was not even subject to an investigation to cases of resignation is a contemptible tactic that disregards the judgment of Changwon citizens," defining it as a meticulously orchestrated 'political terror.'
In particular, the election committee strongly criticized Song's camp for creating anxiety by mentioning a "fine up to 50 times higher" for visitors to Korea South-East Power.
A committee official stressed, "Although it has been confirmed that the candidate himself has no issues under the election law, treating visitors as if they were criminals is a serious discourtesy and incitement toward citizens."
