View original imageThe U.S. Department of Labor announced on May 14 (local time) that new unemployment benefit claims for the week of May 3 to 9 totaled 211,000, an increase of 12,000 from the previous week. This figure exceeds the expert forecast of 205,000 compiled by Dow Jones.

The number of continued unemployment benefit claims—filed by those claiming benefits for more than two weeks—reached 1,782,000 for the week of April 26 to May 2, an increase of 24,000 from the previous week.
Although the number of new unemployment benefit claims surpassed expectations, the overall scale of claims remains at a low level.
