Kang Yoo-jung, Chief Presidential Spokesperson, announced to the media on the afternoon of May 12, "President Lee is scheduled to receive a courtesy visit from Secretary Bessent tomorrow (the 13th)."
Secretary Bessent is visiting Seoul from May 13 to 15 to coordinate agendas with Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng ahead of the U.S.-China summit.
President Lee is expected to exchange views with Secretary Bessent on the international situation and key bilateral issues, including discussions on the upcoming U.S.-China summit. The agenda may include topics such as the ongoing Korea-U.S. working-level negotiations on the U.S.-bound investment package, tariffs, supply chains, the Iran war, and the North Korean nuclear issue.
Earlier in the day, Secretary Bessent met with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi and Finance Minister Kataama in Japan to discuss currency issues and ways to secure supply chains.
