As Energy Supply Conditions Worsen Due to Potential Hormuz Blockade, Korea Gas Corporation to Conduct Thorough LNG Terminal Inspections
Intensive Inspections of National Key Infrastructure
Including Five Major LNG Terminals Nationwide Until June 19
Korea Gas Corporation will conduct a thorough inspection of its liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminals and related facilities in response to deteriorating energy supply conditions, such as the potential blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
On May 12, Korea Gas Corporation announced that it will carry out the "2026 Intensive Safety Inspection" until June 19. Established in August 1983, the company’s main business operations include constructing LNG receiving terminals and natural gas supply pipelines, as well as importing LNG from overseas to supply city gas companies and power plants.

View original imageA Korea Gas Corporation official stated, "The intensive safety inspection is an annual activity conducted by Korea Gas Corporation since 2015, focusing on key infrastructure to ensure the stable supply of natural gas and safeguard the daily lives of citizens." The official added, "Taking into account worsening energy supply conditions, such as a potential blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, the company will conduct meticulous inspections at five major LNG terminals nationwide—Pyeongtaek, Incheon, Tongyeong, Samcheok, and Jeju."
The joint inspection will cover 92 key facilities, including 77 large storage tanks and 8 unloading docks located within the nation's core infrastructure. Comprehensive checks will be carried out across seven areas: disaster safety management, structures, gas, electricity, firefighting, self-protection, and information and communications. In particular, advanced scientific and technological equipment such as drones and thermal imaging cameras will be actively utilized to enhance inspection quality and ensure personnel safety.

Korea Gas Corporation plans to address minor issues identified during the inspection immediately on site. For facilities requiring repair, reinforcement, or detailed diagnosis, emergency measures will be promptly implemented. Furthermore, all such actions will be systematically tracked through the intensive safety inspection system until completion.
