Previously, the party’s Supreme Council had convened on the night of the 9th and gave final approval to the nomination plan for Sun, thereby concluding the fiercely contested primary and officially acknowledging her competitiveness for the general election.
After receiving the nomination certificate, candidate Minkyung Sun visited the National Assembly and reaffirmed her commitment to victory in the general election together with four National Assembly members representing Goyang City constituencies. Lawmakers Kim Seonghoe, Han Junho, Lee Giheon, and Kim Younghwan congratulated her on winning the candidacy and commended her efforts, urging her to approach the election with even greater determination, given that she emerged as the nominee through an intense primary.
Candidate Minkyung Sun stated, “It is thanks to the citizens’ groups and party members who supported me during critical moments that I was able to become the party’s candidate,” and expressed her ambition, promising, “I will repay this trust with an overwhelming victory.”
She also pledged, “I will revive Goyang’s economy, local commercial districts, and transportation so that the city, which has regressed over the past four years, can move forward with renewed strength.” Since the early stages of the primary, Minkyung Sun has conducted a listening tour to gather diverse opinions from civic groups throughout Goyang, carefully crafting policy pledges tailored to the needs of citizens.
In particular, drawing on her experience and expertise in management and transportation—including turning a profit as president of Gyeonggi Transportation Corporation—she plans to focus on delivering key pledges such as reducing commute times to within 30 minutes, expanding the use of local currency, and developing the city into a leader for advanced urban air mobility (UAM).
Meanwhile, on the 6th, candidate Sun addressed allegations of violating the Political Funds Act by releasing a statement of facts from the person involved, labeling the situation as an “organized political scheme” and announcing plans for legal action.
Subsequently, on the 9th, more than 20 civic groups, including Goyang Bitui Yeondae, issued a statement urging an end to smear campaigns against Sun and calling for the protection of democracy, delivering public sentiment to the party’s central committee and demonstrating growing support for her candidacy.
In their statement, Goyang Bitui Yeondae emphasized, “Candidate Minkyung Sun was confirmed as the final nominee for the Democratic Party through a legitimate primary procedure, and as a ‘citizen-policy partnership candidate,’ she has pledged to accept and communicate civic society’s policy demands.”
