Jeonnam Headquarters of Korea Rural Community Corporation Launches 152 Billion Won Agricultural Infrastructure Renovation
Jeonnam Selected for 27 Out of 127 New Districts Nationwide
Strengthening Disaster Response... Reinforcing Aging Facilities
The Jeonnam Regional Headquarters of Korea Rural Community Corporation (hereafter Jeonnam Headquarters) will launch large-scale repair and reinforcement projects for agricultural infrastructure worth 152 billion won this year, aiming to strengthen disaster response capabilities in the face of climate change and ensure a stable supply of agricultural water.
The core of this initiative is the "repair and improvement of water facilities," which involves maintenance of aging reservoirs, irrigation and drainage channels, and pumping stations, as well as the "repair and improvement of seawalls" to prevent coastal flooding. The primary purpose is to mitigate safety risks stemming from the deterioration of facility functions and to proactively respond to extreme weather events such as droughts and heavy rainfall.
In particular, in the selection of new districts for the repair and improvement of water facilities scheduled for 2026, the Jeonnam Headquarters achieved the highest number of selections nationwide. Out of 127 new districts nationwide, it secured 27 districts, accounting for approximately 21% of the total. In terms of total project cost, a significant portion of the nationwide 481.1 billion won project was allocated to Jeonnam, marking a successful securing of national government funding.

This result reflects the government’s high assessment of both the aging agricultural infrastructure in Jeonnam and the urgent need for maintenance. Although Jeonnam is one of the largest agricultural regions in the country, many of its water facilities have been in use for extended periods, with their deteriorating functions and safety concerns continuously raised.
Going forward, the Jeonnam Headquarters plans to implement field-oriented, phased renovations to enhance reservoir safety, restore the functions of irrigation and drainage channels, and improve the performance of pumping stations. In addition, it will expand the scope of safety inspections for three types of aging facilities and operate a facility maintenance history management system to further advance its safety management framework.
