Icheon City to Launch Comprehensive Crackdown on Illegal Circulation of Gyeonggi Icheon Sarang Local Currency in First Half of the Year
Icheon City in Gyeonggi Province announced on May 11 that it will conduct a comprehensive crackdown on illegal circulation of the Gyeonggi Icheon Sarang Local Currency from May 13 to 29, in order to promote proper usage of the currency and establish a sound distribution order.

View original imageThis crackdown aims to eradicate fraudulent transactions involving the local currency and to realize its original purpose of revitalizing the local economy.
The targets of the crackdown include: affiliated merchants of the Gyeonggi Icheon Sarang Local Currency who refuse payment or demand extra charges for unreasonable reasons; businesses operating in restricted sectors such as entertainment establishments; and those who receive and exchange the local currency without actually selling goods or providing services.
During the crackdown period, the city will monitor merchants reported by residents for illegal circulation, as well as sites where abnormal transactions have been detected through analysis of merchant data. The city also plans to carry out promotional activities to prevent illegal circulation of the local currency.
Affiliated merchants found in violation through this crackdown may be subject to on-site guidance, fines, and cancellation of merchant registration, in accordance with the law.
