Daedong Selected as Lead Company for Ministry of Agriculture's "National Agriculture AX Platform"... Building Fourth-Generation AI Greenhouse
Establishment of a 254.6 Billion Won Public-Private SPC with LG CNS and Jeollanam-do Planned for This Year
Daedong announced on May 11 that it has been selected as the preferred bidder for the "National Agriculture AX Platform" development project, an initiative solicited by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs. The Jeollanam-do consortium, led by Daedong and joined by LG CNS, Daedong Agtech, Daeyoung GS, Artfarm Agricultural Corporation, Jeollanam-do, and Muan County, was ultimately selected for the project.
The National Agriculture AX Platform is a project aimed at addressing the structural crises of agriculture—such as abnormal climate conditions, labor shortages, and aging rural populations—by leveraging AI and data-driven technologies. The public call, which began in February and lasted for about two months, included document review, presentations, and on-site evaluations. In the end, one consortium was selected. Daedong received high marks for being an agricultural physical AI company with a comprehensive portfolio, including AI autonomous agricultural machinery, agricultural robots, smart farm operations, and an on-site data collection system.
The consortium plans to establish a public-private joint special purpose corporation (SPC) within the year and to commence full-scale operations next year. The initial project budget totals 254.6 billion won, with plans to construct an advanced AI greenhouse spanning approximately 21.6 hectares in the Muan County area of Jeollanam-do. Based on this infrastructure, the consortium will implement an integrated AI agriculture model encompassing data-driven cultivation, automated farming operations, and production-distribution linkage. The goal is to develop this as a standard model for nationwide expansion and global entry in the future.
According to Daedong, the core of this project is to demonstrate the "fourth-generation unmanned autonomous smart agriculture" model that covers both greenhouses and open fields. Smart greenhouses have evolved from first-generation vinyl greenhouses, to second-generation facilities with automated environmental controls, to third-generation systems supporting AI-driven agricultural decision-making. Now, the sector is entering the fourth generation, where robots and AI autonomously manage the entire process—from cultivation and harvesting to distribution.
Daedong’s strategy is to simultaneously realize unmanned greenhouse agriculture and AI-autonomous open-field agriculture. By connecting AI tractors, multipurpose agricultural robots, precision open-field farming, and smart greenhouse farming solutions, the company aims to establish an agricultural management system with minimal human intervention. The goal is to provide a future agriculture model that enables stable farm operations even in environments lacking skilled agricultural workers.
As the representative company of the consortium, Daedong oversees the deployment of AI autonomous agricultural machinery, agricultural robots, the expansion of precision agriculture solutions, and the overall operation of the SPC. The AI tractor and autonomous transport robot, both launched this year, will also be field-tested through this platform. Its subsidiary, Daedong Agtech, is responsible for supplying AI cultivation solutions and building advanced greenhouses. LG CNS is tasked with developing an AI platform and IT infrastructure based on agricultural environment data collection and analysis, while Daeyoung GS is in charge of constructing greenhouses and basic infrastructure. Artfarm Agricultural Corporation will operate the actual greenhouses and demonstrate crop cultivation models. Upon project completion, about 300 direct jobs are expected to be created, with an estimated employment inducement effect of approximately 23,000 jobs over the next 20 years.

Daedong Vice Chairman Won Yoohyun stated, "This selection is highly significant as it recognizes Daedong not just as an agricultural machinery manufacturer, but as an agricultural physical AI company realizing AI-driven future agriculture." He added, "Through the National Agriculture AX Platform, we will build an AI agriculture platform service model that connects AI tractors, agricultural robots, and precision agriculture data. Based on this, we will transition into a subscription-based AI agriculture service company."
