"When Public Sentiment, Complacency, and Doubt Turn Into Conviction"... Entering the Election Race
Jiwon Park, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea representing Haenam, Wando, and Jindo counties in South Jeolla Province, held a fair election resolution rally with local election candidates to mark the 109th Geumgwiwollae, pledging certain victory.
On May 10 at 8 a.m., Assemblyman Park gathered with the nominated candidates from the three counties of Haenam, Wando, and Jindo to confirm unity as a one team. He emphasized, "When public sentiment, complacency, and suspicion turn into conviction, it becomes reality."

Recently, Assemblyman Park has been strengthening his support by touring Seoul, Gyeonggi, North Gyeongsang Province, as well as Gimpo and Incheon, and on this day, meeting lawmakers from South Jeolla and Gwangju. He remarked, "Every local office gathers 30 to 100 people, and the enthusiasm is high," expressing confidence in achieving a majority.
Candidates from each region also expressed strong determination, saying, "We are confident." However, there were also calls to remain vigilant, as external variables and moves by rival candidates were being detected in some areas. The candidates said, "We will work even harder so that there is no room for others to intervene," demonstrating their resolve to break through with their own capabilities.
It was reported that Haenam County is maintaining a relatively stable momentum, centered around the incumbent county governor, Myung Hyun-gwan. However, a former county council member who failed to receive the Democratic Party nomination due to a lack of qualifications and is now running as an independent has emerged as a variable. As this candidate had served two terms in the past and holds considerable influence in the area, there were calls for Democratic Party candidates to respond carefully.
In Jindo County, a one-team system is being established around candidate Lee Jaekeun. There is heightened tension as a candidate from the National Innovation Party, who has served three terms as a provincial councilor and as vice chairperson, has emerged as a strong rival.
Assemblyman Park stressed, "In Jindo, more than anywhere else, one-team unity is crucial," urging all county council candidates to collaborate closely. There was also analysis that in the county council election, the basic support bases for the Progressive Party and independent candidates could have an impact equivalent to a third-place finish. The candidates pledged, "We will work hard and definitely win."

Heo Dongjo, a candidate for Wando County Council, asserted, "We must strictly monitor to ensure that the stigma of money politics is avoided this time. As a former civil servant, I sometimes hear that it will be difficult because I don't have money." In response, Assemblyman Park also emphasized, "We must absolutely block money politics," and called for sharing information and mutual surveillance by region.
The meeting also discussed the issue of registering backup candidates for proportional representation seats in the provincial council. The group decided to organize backup registrations around the main candidates to ensure organizational stability and avoid vacancies in case of unforeseen circumstances.
