Eunsik Park, Head of the Korea Forest Service, Visits Hamyang to Inspect Wildfire Response System and Local Forestry Sites
Checking the Operation of the Southern Regional National Wildfire Prevention Center
Strengthening Communication with Forestry Workers and the Field
Eunsik Park, head of the Korea Forest Service, visited Hamyang County on May 7 and inspected the operation status of the Southern Regional National Wildfire Prevention Center. He also toured local forestry sites, continuing his commitment to field-oriented forest administration.
According to Hamyang County in South Gyeongsang Province, Park visited the Southern Regional National Wildfire Prevention Center, which opened for the first time this year, and personally checked the wildfire response system and the operation status of firefighting equipment.
Park highlighted the recent trend of wildfires becoming larger and occurring year-round due to climate change. He emphasized the importance of building an early detection system using information and communication technology (ICT), as well as the need for close cooperation between the central government and local governments.

View original imageIn addition, he encouraged the center staff who have been working emergency shifts without holidays, asking them to "do their utmost in wildfire prevention and initial response."
Park also visited Yakcho Gol Farm in Hamyang-eup, which was selected as this month's "Forestry Worker of the Month." There, he personally presented an award to forestry worker Kang Guyoung and listened to feedback and suggestions from the field.
Park stated, "The dedication of forestry workers is the driving force that enhances the value of Korea's forests," and added, "I will actively reflect the voices from the field to resolve difficulties in forestry management and work to establish practical support measures."
Yang Sangho, Deputy Mayor of Hamyang County, who accompanied Park on the visit, requested national funding for the "Mountain Village Dream Village Project" to help new forestry workers settle in rural areas, as well as for the construction of a new office building for the Southern Regional National Wildfire Prevention Center.
He also suggested the necessity of financial support for the purchase of multi-purpose wildfire response vehicles to enhance the efficiency of initial wildfire suppression efforts.

Deputy Mayor Yang said, "I hope this visit by the head of the Korea Forest Service will serve as an opportunity to ensure stable operations of the Southern Regional National Wildfire Prevention Center and provide significant support to local forestry workers. We will continue to work closely with the Korea Forest Service to create a safe, wildfire-free Hamyang and a happy forest environment for forestry workers."
